  1. Thanks kindly, James. Yes, a fan-work as you observe. I wanted to see what I could do with the character after seeing others’ versions over the years. My main departure from Tolkien’s description was to place the house upon a low hill, with relatively low density pine woods around. As someone living alone in the wilds, threatened by wargs and orcs (aka goblins), his dwellings would need to have a view of its approaches. We do know that Beorn’s dwellings lay outside Mirkwood, so that supports sparsely wooded terrain.
