There is to be a book published in 2008 from Random House which is a concordance of the entire lore author George R.R. Martin has published so far about his fantasy realm Westeros. I have been commissioned to illustrate a series of castles from the books, and here you will find some examples. There are 13 works involved, each a distinct location and castle design according to the author’s descriptions. I have been working closely with Mr. Martin and we are very excited about the results. Another project is in the works with GRRM, an illustrated edition of one of the remaining volumes in the series A Song of Ice and Fire. I will keep you informed of progress on that project when it arrives, but it is still many months in the future at this point in late 2007.

The Red Keep at King’s Landing

Castle Black and The Wall

Media: Gouache on illustration board Dimensions: 11¼″ × 15″ The Wall is a 700′ wall of solid ice meant, like Hadrian’s Wall in Britain or China’s Great Wall, to repel invaders from the great wild lands north. Castle Black is the main fort along its length, housing the men who guard The Wall in perpetuity.
